Today I heard a question that really caught my attention. The question was is today going to be a Good Day, a Bad Day, or is today going to be a GREAT DAY!?

That question has stuck with me all day. Of course today I thought “Today is going to be a GREAT DAY.” Because that’s how most of us think when someone with high energy asks us such a question. But what about every other day. What about the days when there is no motivational guru around to inspire us to make the most out of the day?

All day that question was in the back of my mind. I realized that 80% of my days I don’t ask myself that question. I just wake up and start my day. And some days or Bad days. But it is not a decision I feel I made at the beginning of the day. I never wake up and think today is going to be a bad day. I am a very optimistic person. But I really started to wonder how my life would be different if when I woke up that question was my first thought.

And since I am optimistic I would think I would always answer yes – today is going to be a great day! And I wondered if even a pessimistic person would be able to resist the answer of Great Day. Maybe. But I know I wouldn’t be able to. And if I asked that of myself everyday “How would my life change?”

Well here is what I know from experience. I would definitely be more likely to react positively to anything that comes up thru out the day. I know that because it would put me in a positive mood to begin with. And I know how hard it is to react in Anger when you are in a positive mental state.

A little while ago I noticed a person literally trying to transfer their anger to me. I’m not sure if they noticed. But this one person I know recently called and left a very long voice mail in which they repeatedly cursed at me. But I was busy working hard and had just accomplished a few goals of mine. And that morning when I woke up I knew TODAY IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY! So when I heard the message I didn’t react at all. I simply deleted the message, texted them sorry that I made them angry and went about my day.

Now normally when some one calls to yell at me I yell back. I think most of us do. We get defensive and it just seems like the natural thing to do. But because of that and other circumstances I see now that I have a choice. I don’t have to let another’s Anger affect me. I can let it bounce right off of me. I noticed it helps that I never see that Anger as permanent. Meaning I know they are likely to calm down and move on.

But the times that I don’t react negatively are those days when I wake up knowing today is going to be a great day. It puts me in this amazing mental space where I seem so much better at handling any challenge that may come my way. And the crazy thing about making that decision “TODAY IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY” is most of the time the day comes with wonderful surprises that truly make it in to a Great day – and at the very least not a bad day.

So my very late new years resolution is to Plan for a GREAT DAY 80% of my days! I know I’m not perfect so no 100% from me. But If I could start my day 80% of the time pumping myself up to have a GREAT DAY I really believe that my life would be even better than it already is. A GREAT DAY TO ALL!!!!!
